SRM-IST is proud to add Agricultural Sciences into its fold to foster agricultural education. It is contemplating to start School of Agriculture, School of Horticulture, School of Dairy Technology, School of Poultry Science and School of Food Technology etc.
An undergraduate degree programme B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture was introduced from the academic year (2018-19).

B.Sc Hons.) Horticulture programme is a 4 years (8 semesters) degree programme. The course imparts basic and advanced knowledge on the art, science, technology and business of growing, management; post-harvest processing, value addition; and marketing of fruits; vegetables; tubers; ornamental, medicinal and aromatic crops; spices; nuts; plantation crops; algae; flowers; seaweeds; grass; ornamental trees and plants; mushroom; and bamboo. It also includes beekeeping; plant conservation; landscape restoration; landscape and garden design, construction, and maintenance; and arboriculture.
There are tremendous opportunities on growing, processing and marketing (local and export) of cut-flowers, fruits and vegetables through Urban and semi urban horticulture, Organic horticulture, Vertical garden / roof top horticulture, Hydroponics, Landless horticulture in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur and Thiruvannamalai districts and also other parts of the state and the country which can be beneficial to the graduates of Horticulture from SRM-IST. They can work as gardeners, growers, therapists, designers, and technical advisors in the food and non-food sectors of horticulture.
Horticulture graduates could be placed in Government Horticulture Department; in Banking sectors; in processing industries; in landscaping field; become an entrepreneur establishing horticulture farming / post harvest processing/ marketing / export; and also pursue higher studies.
