Workshop on Foundations of Deep Learning

Start: 05-03-2018
End: 07-03-2018

Event Description:

Deep Learning is a branch of Machine Learning based on a set of algorithms that attempt to model high level abstractions in data by using multiple processing layers, with complex structures or otherwise, composed of multiple non-linear transformations. The Workshop on Foundations of Deep Learning rocketed off on 5th March 2018 with a wonderful introduction by Dr. Sampath from the University of Madras. The session began at 9:00 am after the introductory ceremony. The morning session was taken by Dr. Sampath on Classification Techniques. The afternoon session then started at 1:00pm by Dr. Harisekhar from Sriseshaa Technologies. He scattered his knowledge to the students about Dimensionality Reduction.

The second day of the Deep Learning workshop was handled by a speaker of HyperVerge Inc. who shared his wonderful thoughts on Deep Learning for Computer Vision. The second day was very informative and helpful. This concluded the second day of the workshop.

On the third day of the workshop Mr. Suriyadeepan of Saama Technologies gave a explained description about Introduction to RNN. A recurrent neural network (RNN) is a class of artificial neural network where connections between nodes form a directed graph along a sequence. This allows it to exhibit dynamic temporal behavior for a time sequences This makes them applicable to tasks such as unsegmented, connected handwriting recognition or speech recognition. With this, the workshop came to an end. The students were awarded with certificates.

Workshop on Foundations of Deep Learning

Deep learning (also known as deep structured learning, hierarchical learning or deep machine learning) is a branch of machine learning based on a set of algorithms that attempt to model high-level abstractions in data by using multiple processing layers, with complex structures or otherwise, composed of multiple non-linear transformations. Deep Learning is a fastest growing field and has applications in Computer Vision, Text Analytics, and Speech Processing etc. This growth is because of the deluge of data from variety of sources and the need for accurate analysis, classification of predictions. The goal of this workshop is to bring together experts from mathematics and deep learning experts working on real-time projects to give a strong introduction to the basic building blocks of deep learning.

Workshop Outline:

CSI Sponsored Seminar On "Nature Inspired Computing"

Date: 19-03-2018
Event Name: CSI Sponsered Seminar On "Nature Inspired Computing"
Faculty coordinator: Ms.C.Fancy & her Team

The seminar was organized by the IT Department and sponsored by CSI Madras Section to enlighten the students on Nature Inspired Computing. It was held on 19 th March 2018 and it was presided by Dr. R.Harikrishnan, a Senior member of CSI chapter and an expert from genetic algorithms. He is a fulltime professor in Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Sathyabhama University, Chennai. The seminar began on a happy note with an overview of the topic Nature Inspired Computing. Nature inspired computing, or NIC, is a very new discipline that strives to develop new computing techniques through observing how naturally occurring phenomena behave to solve complex problems in various environmental situations. He described about how nature provides us with the solutions to certain roblems. The main focus of the seminar was to teach the students to take inspiration from nature for the development of novel problem-solving techniques. He further explained that certain techniques have been  merged for the solution of optimization problems. This seminar served as a guiding platform for all the students and made them aware about the term Nature Inspired Computing. The student’s doubts and any queries regarding the technology were also being clarified by Dr.R.Harikrishnan. It was a very enriching experience for all the students. It was a great privilege for the students on being a part of such an interactive seminar. We are also looking forward to many such enlightening seminars by the IT Department in the future as well.
