About Us

Coordinating Multidisciplinary Research in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology. The Nanotechnology Research Center established in December 2006 has focused on multidimensional growth for the development of science & technology in our institution and our country at large. The research program of the center has been focused on both thematic areas of national importance and basic research with importance to the development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Some of the focused areas of research are,

Areas of Research

  • Nanostructured materials
  • Nanomagnetism and Spintronics
  • Advanced drug synthesis, drug delivery and controlled release
  • Nanomaterials for sensor application
  • Environmental nanotechnology
  • Nanotoxicology
  • Carbon nanotechnology (Nanotubes, Bucky Balls, DLC, Nanosheets)

The center has secured institutional Collaboration with IGCAR, Kalpakkam and Sankara Netralaya, Chennai for the Nanotechology initiatives of the University. It has received a project grant of Rs. 1.2 crores from Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India for the development of Nano filters for water purification and removal of VOC's from contaminated air using supported Nano particles.

NRC user outreach Program

At NRC we always put our efforts into the user program to attract more eminent researchers to use our facility. This brings researchers from across the state and around the country to use our advanced instruments at NRC. The demographics bellow shows the diversity of intra-university and external users of NRC.

10 % of the NRC’s users per year are from outside SRM group of institutions, this includes around 70 other institutions / industries or government organizations.

The following figure shows the percentage of users availing specific instruments available at NRC. Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) is the most used instrument in our facility with over 1200 users per year.

Department-wise Internal users of NRC

NRC has internal users from over 26 departments within the SRM groups of institutions. Majority of the users are from department of physics and nanotechnology, mechanical and research institute.

User feedback

Through our online feedback system we learned that about 99.2 % of our users are satisfied with our services.

We take responsibility to deliver the users their results on time or even before if possible. Our faculties at NRC are experts in their field of material research and therefore were able to explain the users the nature of the acquired results. Also, the quality of the results that we provide to our users has satisfied them consistently. All this have lead our users giving a good feedback to us about their experience with NRC.

User Publication

Overall SRM university faculties and students who have published in the field related research are around 330, in these 113 of which are NRC’s internal users from over 26 departments within SRM group of institutions. This shows that NRC contributes to over 26% of the field related publications of SRM University
