The 2nd and 3rd-year students of B.Com and 1st and 2nd-year students of M.Com visited the Mount Road branch of Securities Exchange Board Of India (SEBI) in batches which were commenced from 4th September 2018 to 19th September 2018. The visit was held on every Tuesday and Wednesday of the week. SEBI provided an informative talk under the title “Financial planning for young investors”. The session was started with SEBI’s history, role, and functions in the financial market. Smart goals of financial planning were discussed at length. Risk versus return which had combinational connectivity in the financial market was clearly explained in depth. The effect of inflation on investments was explained and the difference between savings, loans, and investments was segmented in detail.
Different types of Accounts including the Demat A/c, Trading A/c to handle transactions for trading investments like Shares, Debentures, Mutual funds and so on through SEBI was clearly detailed. The procedures and steps involved for an individual to invest in investments through SEBI and the necessary documents which are to be produced were explained. The precautions which are to be taken by customers before investing were made clear and they were cautioned about the tracks which are not to opt for investment. The advantages of investing in investments through SEBI were elaborated broadly as it featured the protection of investment and the powers of SEBI to protect their clients. SEBI has a grievance redressal mechanism for its clients. Investors can send their queries and complaints through real-time connectivity. SEBI concluded by stressing the fact, “clients need to invest in investments through their own money, not on borrowed money”.
