Leadership Talks

To acknowledge the role of women and women achievers, the Directorate of Alumni Affairs organized an event of “Leadership Talks” as part of the Women's Day celebration on March 02, 2019 at MBA Seminar Hall, KTR Campus. Six alumnae in various walks of life graced the occasion by their presence.

Dr. T. Mythili (Ph.D. at SRM), Director, Student Affairs shared some of her inspirational thoughts and quoted from a few good books that could motivate women to keep moving.  She was in high spirits speaking about her career ladder, starting her career journey after attaining motherhood and balancing family and career.

Thirupurasundari Sevvel (B.Arch, 2011) - Founder, URBAN CONCLAVE shared her life journey and her career path of being an NGO now. While explaining the power of women she cited the construction industry where women contribute a major role in the industry but are underpaid and unrecognized. They endure the physical and mental hardship while also taking care of their kids

Shweta Balambal (Bioinformatics 2013) – Corporate Social Responsibility at TCS expressed that the opportunity of storytelling to underprivileged kids changed her career outlook.  And now she is a good storyteller which inspired a junior for what he is right now.

Ujjwaal Bharadwaj (ECE, 2017) - Founder & CTO at Stithi Innovations Pvt. Ltd delivered about her pathway from SRM to her position now as an award-winning social entrepreneur.

Nayonika Basu (IT, 2017) - Assistant Manager at Royal Enfield recollected her memories of SRM and her contribution while she was a student and volunteering at DSA.

Nishtha Sen (ECE, 2019) - Founder, Light & Life (NGO) was inspired by her grandmother and shared a few instances of her journey.

Last but not the least our Alumni Coordinator Dr. Deeptha Thattai (Civil, 1993) - Associate Professor – Civil gave some light to the occasion by delivering a speech on the theme “Balance for better”.

There was also an informative panel discussion in which the various issues faced by women were highlighted and questions from the audience were fielded by the speakers.

AGAM is the platform where both the students and corporate experts combine together through games and gain value addition through the activities they are engaged. The second edition of Agam 2019 was celeberated in Dr. T.P. Ganesan Auditorium SRMIST, Kattankulathur campus. The event was inaguarated by Thiru Ponniah, IAS Collector and District Magistrate of Kancheepuram district, Mr Venkatesh Rajaratnam, COO, Gamesa India, Mr.M.K. Chandrasekaran, Vivadha Kalam host, Vendhar TV. The Chief Guest for the event was Actor Vikranth. The event was presided by The Registrar, SRMIST Kattankulathur. 

Thiru. P. Ponniah, on his speech narrated about Heuristic which means discover a land for themselves allowing students to learn by discovering things and learning from their own experiences rather than by telling them things. Mr. Venkatesh Rajaratnam in his speech stated about two important things in business, 1.Distructive practices in which mobile phones rules on today’s world and 2.Banking today about the online transactions such as paytm etc. As a Entrepreneur we should be aligned with the latest practices to know on what’s happening and changes around us must be considered and we must be aware and agile to handle the problems in future competitions.

M.K.Chandrasekaran Vivadhakalam, Host vendhar TV, spoke about  whatever the situation, follow the ethics and don’t come out of the business, work hard.He also stated that only currency is not enough for survival,  present happiness is also needed.Get the basic thing for survival and make your parents and your country happy.

Micheal. J Barnes, Director of Faculty of Management and Law of SRM Institute of Science and Technology had been a Professor and Dean at OP Jindal Global University. He has 14 years of study experience. He highlighted the points of 7P’s of being professional, cross-functioning of disciplines, developing the soft skills. He pointed out that SRM not only has disciplines like finance, hr but also includes global vermis, digital technology as well as leadership.

Tree plantation at govt primary school, Nattarasanpattu

On 26th February 2019, SRM Institute of Science & Technology organized “Tree Plantation” at Nattarasanpattu Government Primary and Higher Secondary School under the aegis of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, a flagship programme of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India with aim to accelerate development and growth in villages through participatory and appropriate technologies. A team of 50 enthusiastic NSS student volunteers and staff from Maintenance Department with required equipments, planting materials and manpower visited the schools. A whole day was dedicated to this event as it required levelling the school ground with mud, followed by planting 28 saplings of Albizia saman/rain tree and Peltophorum pterocarpum/yellow flame tree, fencing and watering. Through this participatory process, local residents, students and teachers actively engaged in cleanup of the school ground and tree planting. Under the instructions of Head Master, the students volunteered to form groups and each group pledged to look after and nurture one tree.

On the same day, the students also took part in plastic awareness drives in the vicinity of both the schools. This was in keeping with objectives of University Grants Commission’s directive to make swachhata part of education and also Swachh Bharat Mission to achieve clean India by 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in 2019. There were interactive sessions with students on the importance of cleanliness, sanitation and greenery. They shared their swachhata-related practices at school and home. The students said “trees are literally the source of life on this earth. They help preserve environment by reducing the amount of carbon dioxide and are also responsible for keeping the air fresh and clean”
