In a first of its kind for Tamil Nadu, the Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists and SRM University’s College of Pharmacy are organizing an International Conference on the Theme of Chemical Biology in Drug Research between February 8 and 10, 2017.
More than 20 international and 30 national experts will be attending the meet. With one of the major objectives being to motivate young minds to develop new drugs, vaccines and cure for diseases, the Conference also stands to benefit researchers and students on the present state of the discipline.
The inaugural address was given by Dr.T.R.Paarivendhar, Founder Chancellor of SRM University and guest of honor was Professor Michael D.Threadgill, Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, University of Bath, U.K. Dr Anamik Shah, President ISCB has presided over the conference.
The conference was felicitated by Dr.T.P Ganesan, Pro Vice Chancellor, SRM University, Dr.N.Sethuraman Registrar, SRM University, Dr.N.Chandraprabha, Director Health Sciences, SRM University. Dr. K.S.Lakshmi Dean, SRM College of Pharmacy gave welcome address to the gathering, while Dr P.M.S Chauhan, General Secretary ISCB gave presidential address, the introduction about ISCB were described.
The Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists (ISCB) has around 600 members and has grown over the past 16 years drawing from academic, industrial and research fields covering a wide range of scientific and technical research. The central secretariat is situated in Lucknow.
In the past delegates from India and abroad including USA, UK, Russia, France, Finland Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Taiwan and Kuwait have participated in conferences of the ISCB with several scientists and Nobel laureates presenting their work and sharing research findings on drug research, chemical sciences, bio-nanotech, chemical biology, glycobiology and biochemistry.
India has an excellent youth power and knowledge that can focus on newer drug research which would be beneficial to the society in turn they can avail the fruits of such developments. The theme of the conference ISCBC-2017 will be matching with the current trend in drug developments which implies “Interface of Chemical Biology in Drug Research”.
In the past ISCB has instituted awards distributed every year for excellence, youth scientists, distinguished women scientists, industrial scientists, lifetime achievement award with a view to identifying research excellence in chemical biology and drug research so as to encourage and motivate academicians, researchers and industrialists.
The inauguration ceremony ended with the vote of thanks by Dr.V.Chitra, Vice Principal, SRM College of Pharmacy. This international conference continues for three days

There were about 650 participants from India and abroad. The scientific sessions were highly useful for the young researchers who participated in the conference.
In the valedictory function Dr.V.Chitra , Vice Principal, SRM College of Pharmacy, gave welcome address to the gathering, while Prof. Anamik Shah, President ISCB presented the sumup address.
The presidential address was given by Dr.P.Thangaraju ,Pro Vice Chancellor Medical, SRM University, and Dr.N.Chandraprabha , Director, Health Sciences, SRM University gave special address.
The ISCB appreciation award for Industrial scientist was presented to Dr.Keshav Deo, Senior Vice president, Wockhardt.
The best poster presentation under chemistry was awarded to Dr. Rotwik Samantha and under biological sciences it was shared by Ms. Precious Debora and Ms. Hafsa Ahmed.
Prof. Anil Singh and Dr.K.Deo, distributed the certificates to the participants.
