The inaugural function of Student Counseling Services Center organized by Department of Psychiatry, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Center was held on May 4, 2017. Prof. Prabir K Bagchi, Vice-Chancellor of SRM University inaugurated the event and delivered an inspirational speech on the importance of implementing Student Counseling Services to support students as well as faculty members.  Registrar, Pro Vice-Chancellor (P&D) Dr. T. SRM University B.Tech Counseling 2017 - 14th May 2017

This admission season registered around 2 lakh students.  Online entrance exam, SRMJEEE, took place in 121 venues across the country. The online test was administered from 1s to 30th April 2017. That the university is popular with regions outside the state boundaries of Tamil Nadu is reflected by the demand distribution: 7929 Candidates from Uttar Pradesh, 7298 candidates from Tamil Nadu, 6890 candidates from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, 4580 candidates from Delhi.

Counseling for admission to B.Tech is scheduled from 14th May 2017, will go till 22ndMay 2017 and for M.Tech on 23rd May 2017. Simultaneously, SRM Engineering Counseling Carnival is also held between 12th May and 23rd May 2017, for which the parents and the prospective students are being invited to the Kattankulathur Campus. The carnival aims to provide an opportunity to parents and prospective students to get to know of the multi- faceted professionalism of SRM University in developing future Engineers. This will assist the students in making the right choices and right decision to secure the student’s future.

The Counseling is administered centrally at Kattankulathur for the four campuses of SRM – Chennai, SRM Delhi, SRM Haryana and SRM Amaravati .On the first day of counselling (i.e 14th May 2017), Dr.Parivendhar , Chancellor , SRM University awarded several scholarships to recognize and reward highly talented students, including Founders’ Scholarship – 100% waiver of tuition and hostel fees which was offered to top 100 rank holders of SRMJEEE for their excellent performance in the examination and 38 candidates were offered the Employee ward Scholarship . Also, Socio – Economic scholarship, differently abled scholarship, SRM Arts & culture scholarship and scholarships to outstanding sports persons were awarded.

At the close of the day of counselling, there was high demand for CSE and Mechanical Engineering Programmes.







Six Weeks Certificate Course in Sports Coaching

SRM University is organizing Six week certificate course in sports coaching from 16th May to 24th June 2017 in the following discipline, Under the Auspices of Sports Authority of India.

123 students attended the Six week certificate course in Sports coaching from All over India (Kashmir to kanyakumari-Mumbai to west Bengal-Nepal and Andaman nichobar) .Most of the students are working in schools, colleges, railways, Police and in services. The purpose of attending the course is to enrich their knowledge in the concerned discipline .They had Morning and evening practical’s and in between from 10.00am to 1.00pm they had theory classes in (FS&H Seminar Rooms and Class Rooms) and they learnt the advance training methods in their particular disciplines .During practical they learnt Tactics & Strategy that they were adopting in the game situations. In addition to that they learnt rules and regulations. Dr.R.Balasubamanian, Director FSH delivered the valedictory address ,Shri Najmul Hoda ,IPS , DIG address the gathering and distributed the certificates to the trainees Prof Dr.K.Vaithianathan ,Director Sports Welcomed the gathering Mr.S.Daskshinamoorthy  proposed vote of thanks. All the SAI coaches attended the function and grace the occasion.

    Tobacco -Threat to Development

    World 'No Tobacco Day' is observed  around the world every year on 31st May and is intended to encourage abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption and awareness of its hazards around the globe . The WHO theme differing every year designated its theme as “TOBACCO -THREAT TO DEVELOPMENT” for 2017 .This day was observed by the students and staff of SRM Kattankulathur Dental College and Hospital across Kanchipuram district with zeal who rendered their service for the cause .The event was inaugurated by the Dean and Vice Principal who addressed the participants of the awareness rally consisting of 150 -200 students. The participants marched from Guduvanchery to SRM Kattankulathur Dental College and Hospital carrying play cards depicting the ill effects of smoking and tobacco.

    Multiple cultural programmes included interesting street play which was applauded by all. Team of doctors and students, through models, posters, audiovisual display and initiation of No tobacco cessation clinic for counseling patients explained the hazardous effects of tobacco. Tobacco affects 7 million people globally every year out of which India accounts to nearly one fifth. It is being done with the hope that every health care professional plays a major role in curbing the effects caused by tobacco and by working together we can beat tobacco, Protect health, reduce poverty and promote development. The ultimate goal of this rally was to protect the present and future generations not only from the consequences of using tobacco but also against social, environmental and social scourges of tobacco use.
