National Conference on Advances in Materials and Manufacturing Techniques - NCAMMT 2017

NCAMMT’17 is a National level conference on ‘Advances in Materials and Manufacturing Techniques’ organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University) Vadapalani Campus on 24th-25th March 2017.The Conference commenced with the Inaugural function. Shri. K. Palanivel Raja, Director& Head of Central Institute of Plastic Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Chennai has graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and presented the inaugural address. He has shared his concern on conference topics and gave valuable speech on plastics tooling & product development in the industry through his experience. Dr.V.N. Mani, Scientist-E, CMET, Hyderabad was the Guest of Honor. Dr. K. Duraivelu, Dean [E&T], SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University) Vadapalani campus has given the felicitation address. He had given introductory remarks about the conference and has felicitated the guests and participants. Earlier Dr.S. Karthikeyan, Head of the Department has proposed the welcome address.The conference proceedings were released by the Chief guest and guest of honour. Dr. G. Dan Sathiaraj has proposed the Vote of Thanks. All HODs, faculty members of various departments, Participants from various colleges, Research institutes and Students were present during the occasion.

The conference has attracted a good number of papers from MIT-Chennai, Anna University-Chennai, Velammal Engg., College-Chennai, ARCI-Hyderabad, CIPET-Chennai, and CISR-Chennai, Osmania University-Hyderabad etc., Around 120 papers were received for the conference and 89 papers were selected for the presentation based on the quality and theme. The first key note address was presented by Dr. V. N. Mani. He delivered lecture on “Design & Development of Systems for Preparation of High Pure Gallium & Indium and their Materials and Devices for Advanced Electronic Applications – A Bird’s Eye View”. In his overview presentation advancements, current trends and practices pertaining to the harnessing and sourcing electrical energy using Concentrator Photo Voltaic (CPV) technology concepts were discussed. Second key note address was delivered by Dr.Amitava Ghosh, Associate Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering,IIT Madras, Chennai. He delivered the keynote speech on “Exploring the Scope of Nano Fluids in High Speed Machining for Cooling/Lubrication”.In overview, he concentrated on need for high speed machining and its challenges, Environmental impact of cutting fluids, use of new cooling lubrication technology ie., Small quantity cooling lubrication (SQCL) and improving the performance of SQCL using nano fluids.

On the second day of conference, Dr.S. Balasivanandha Prabhu,Associate Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Anna University delivered the third keynote address on “Severe Plastic Deformation Processing of Materials: Texture Analysis”. In his presentation, he covered the various methods and various aspects of structural changes in metals caused by severe plastic deformation process. He particularly concentrated on repetitive corrugation and straightening technique. Dr.Sushanta Kumar Panigrahi, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Madras, Chennai delivered the fourth keynote address on “Innovative Manufacturing Routes to Improve Structural Efficiency of Magnesium Alloys”. In his talk, he concentrated on basics of slip systems, crystal structures valence electron and its effect on structural efficiency before introducing magnesium alloys. Finally, he presented a novel hybrid method to fabricate TiC-TiB2 reinforced magnesium matrix composites. All the lectures were very interactive. Participants were excited about the lectures and were interacting frequently.

Paper presentation were conducted in four sessions. All the participants had orally presented their research papers. Dr. I. Suresh  Kannan (AP/Mech), Dr.G.DanSathiaraj (AP/Mech), Dr.K. Ramachandran (HOD, Physics), Dr.Jaganathan. K, (AP, Physics), Dr.V.N. Mani (Scientist-E, CMET) and Dr. T. Maridurai (Associate Professor, Velammal Engineering College) chaired the sessions. Respected Dean [E&T] and HOD/Mechanical Engineering distributed the certificates to all the participants at the end of the second day. Finally, HOD thanked everyone for attending two days national conference and concluded that the conference was a great success.
