Dr. V. J. Surya

M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D

Research Assistant Professor

Dr. Surya has joined in the Department of Nanotechnology and SRM Research Institute, SRM University in October 2016. 

Main theme of her research drive is computational materials science. Her research activity has started with the project entitled “Interaction of molecules with carbon nanotubes and functionalization for hydrogen storage” during her Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) course (July 2007 - June 2008). She have been exposed to basic theory of carbon nanotubes and the methodology of computational research. After completion of M. Phil. course, She has worked as a project fellow in Asian Office of Aerospace Research and Development (AOARD) Project from July 2008 -July 2009. Followed by that, She has worked as Senior Research Fellow (SRF) in CSIR Emeritus Scientist Scheme Project entitled, “Investigation of functionalized Nanostructured Carbon materials as possible hydrogen storage medium”. (August 2009 – March 2012). From 2013 to 2016 (September), She has worked as a post doctoral researcher in Tohoku University, Japan on high-efficiency rare element extraction technology Project. This project deals with the computational simulations on ionic liquids for metal extraction. Along with her own research interests, she always like to tie up with the experimentalists to do collaborative works. In SRM University, she is leading Novel, Advanced, and Applied Materials (NAAM) Research Group.
