Dr. Gupta joined SRM Research Institute & Department of Mathematics, SRM University as a Research Assistant Professor in September 2016. Prior to this, he was a postdoc in Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization, Göttingen, Germany during January–August 2016, where his work dealt with granular gases under the supervision of Dr. Marco G. Mazza. Dr. Gupta earned his doctoral degree (Dr. rer. Nat.) from RWTH Aachen University, Germany in 2015 under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Manuel Torrilhon and M.S. (Engineering) degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bengaluru, India in 2011 under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Meheboob Alam. During his doctoral degree, he worked on the mathematical modeling of rarefied gas-mixtures while on the kinetic theory of granular gases during his M.S. degree. He has also earned M.Sc. (Applied Mathematics) degree from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India in 2007.

His current research focuses on mathematical modeling and numerical simulations of rarefied gases, gas mixtures and granular gases.
